The Impact of School Libraries and Librarians on Reading Culture Discussed at OKUYAY Meetings
The sixth of OKUYAY Meetings, which discussed “The Effect of School Libraries and Librarians on Reading Culture”, was held on December 3, 2019, at the work office of OKUYAY Platform in Taksim, Istanbul. During the meeting, the focus of the discussion was about the activities and conditions which can be achieved to direct the students’ attention to the books and libraries.
The other issues also mentioned in the meeting were: the role of school librarians in gaining reading habit and curiosity; collaborations with teachers, especially Turkish and literature teachers, how to choose a book for school libraries and features of selected books; number and variety of periodicals in libraries, and digital applications and programs in school libraries.
